It is the year 2029, thirty years since Ash Ketchum won the Hoenn 3rd Annual Elite Trainer Tournament. Our story takes us to the Gottem residence, where little John Gottem waits for his dad. Usually his dad reads him stories out of the Pokemon Legendary Stories for Bedtime book, but this week his dad was going to tell John about his Pokemon journey.
John’s dad, Shiggy Gottem was the co-warden of the Safari Zone, and lived in Fuchsia City. He was a well-known trainer who had been to Johto, Hoenn, and traveled everywhere in Kanto. He settled down with his wife, and three children, in the same city as his cousin Janine, the Fuchsia City Gym Leader. As he sat down, with his son in the bed, he started on his autobiography.
(Author Notes: I will refer to Shiggy telling his story without quotation marks, and when he says something in the story it will have quotation marks.) I was running home from school on my tenth birthday. My friend Michael Wantem caught up to me, and said, “You can finally get your Trainer I.D. This must feel more awesome than when you beat Kyle Hatame in a scrimmage.”
“Shiggy replied, “Yes, a lot more awesome than that. I remember what Pokemon I used to battle him. It was a Kingdra. Ever since that day, I have dreamed I would be able to get one for my team; but of course I must capture a Horsea first.” I was grinning a huge smile, as we talked.
Michael, and I looked very different. He wore blue glasses, and was tall. He was also very skinny. We lived in the same neighborhood and walked home together. We met on the first day of kindergarten. It was naptime, but I wasn’t sleepy. He wasn’t either. We made a plot to get to the playground, but got caught before we even made it out of the door.
I on the other hand was an average sized boy, and a little bit masculine. I wore black jeans, a blue shirt, and a golden cap. I have a gold, and blue backpack, and always carry my pet/soon to be starter, Torch the Torchic with me to school. My dream, to be a pokemon master, and beat my cousin Janine.
Michael, and I continued to talk all of the way to my house. The last thing I told him before we walked inside my house was, “My dream team would probably consist of Blaziken, Kingdra, Heracross, Sceptile, Dragonite, and Tyranitar; while my portable p.c. would hold: Tauros, Alakazam, Gengar, Raichu, Ampharos, and so many more.
As I opened the door to my house, a bunch of my friends, and relatives jumped out, and yelled, “SURPRISE.” I knew that they had this set up a few weeks ago, and had to act surprised. I didn’t let them see the smirk I had on my face, and bit my lip to keep from laughing. My saliva filled my mouth, and made it feel sour. I had to sneak up to the bathroom to make sure I didn’t start laughing.
When I came out, everyone was talking, and eating. That was surprising to me. Usually at my parties everyone is arguing. It was like they settled their differences for me. I was so amazed, but I still wondered how long would it last.
My mom seemed to think the same thing, and said, “Come on outside, let’s eat some cake, and open those presents.” Everyone ran outside, especially me. It wasn’t because of the cake, but because of the presents. I couldn’t wait for the part were I open my presents. I knew I was getting a Pokemon Trainer I.D. but would I get a Pokedex, Pokenav, or even a Portable P.C.
Everyone sat down at the table, and sung Happy Birthday. I blew out my candles with a deep breath, and got the first piece of cake. Everyone ate a piece my mom’s homemade Lemon Cake Express, as she called it.
When everyone finished, I went over to my first present. I opened it, and there were two Pokeball, side by side. As I picked them up I realized they weren’t empty. I threw the Pokeballs gently, while yelling, “Go Pokemon.” A silver shapeless light eventually formed into a Heracross, and a Dratini. I suddenly remembered those two pokemon as the ones I captured in Pokemon Training Practice with my grandpa. I was so happy, and my eyes were watering. I took a Pokeball of my Pokemon Belt, and yelled, “Go Torch. How do you like your new partners? The three pokemon started playing, like they had known each other their whole life.
My other gifts were just as amazing. I got a Pokedex, a Pokenav, Progress Recorder, Many Pokeballs, 120000 dollars, Trainer I.D. a Portable P.C. and more. I was so happy, and was ready to start my journey, but I wanted wait one more day, before I left.
The next day, I spent time with my family. They were so happy I was following in the steps of the family. I hadn’t even started my journey officially, yet my dream team was almost finished. My grandparents were leaving the same day I was, and I was going to the Safari Zone, with them.
We loaded into the van, and shot across the road. I looked out the window, and saw the trainers trying to capture pokemon. I felt jealous of their freedom, but the fact that I would be like them soon was comforting.
We finally arrived, and I entered the door. The clerk said, “Shiggy you know the drill, what pokemon do you want to take with you.” I barely remembered that guard, or the new rule that you could take one pokemon with you, but when I was reminded, remembered that I sure liked it. After quick thinking, I decided to take my new Heracross with me. I paid $50.00 using my grandpa’s discount, and entered the huge park.
I saw so many trainers running like chickens with their head cut off. I walked into a kid around my age, and size. His name was Benjamin, but wanted me to call him Benny. He had started his journey 1 day before mine. He seemed nice, so I asked him if he wanted to continue his journey with me, and he said he was glad to. Up close he didn’t look that much like me. He was taller, and bigger than me. He was wearing a silver cap, blue jeans, and a red shirt.
“I need to find a Nidoran F really bad, but I can’t find them. I have been in area 1, 2, and 3, and can’t find area 4. I need one to save my family. Its poison, once extracted, and cleansed, can counteract other poisons, and a Seviper bit my mom, dad, brother, and sister. I only have two hours to capture it, but I can’t get to area 4,” Benny said in a cold sweat, and panic.
“Benny, hold on, don’t panic. I know this place like the back of my head. Follow me, and we will get there in 5 minutes,” I replied as I showed him the way to get there. I remembered where it was because that is where Horsea can be found. “I will help you capture a Nidoran F, then we will find a Horsea for me to capture.

We walked through the perfectly grown grass, as the wind flew against their faces. I ran to a secret underground cave with Benny following me. We tiptoed pass the sleeping Geodude, and Nosepass, then ran into the meadow of crisp clean grass, with fishing spots.
Benny ran into the tall grass, and was almost immediately tackled by a Nidoran F. “Go, Totodile. Use your Water Gun,” Benny he cried in reaction. A Totodile emerged from a silver light, and quickly shot out a high pressure water blast at the Nidoran F. Nidoran F retaliated with Double Kick, knocking Totodile over.
Benny threw a rock at Nidoran F, and made it cry. It screeched, wailed, and Uproared. After some waiting, He then threw food at it, to calm it down. Benny threw another chunk of bait, and Nidoran F started loafing around, and eating. It was totally distracted, and oblivious to the fact that Benny was still there. Benny threw the Safari ball at the eating Nidoran F, and the Safari ball rocked back, and forth, until finally it came to a sudden stop.
Just then over the P.A. system came a booming nasal voice that said, “This Safari Zone session is now over. Go to the nearest platform, and wait for you to be teleported to the front. Benny and I went over to the blue platform, and were instantly transported to the front. These new platform honed the teleporting power of Abras, therefore, making it possible to teleport from one place to another.
While I was thinking, “Darn, I didn’t get to capture a Horsea,” Benny said, “Come one, we must go to my house and heal my family. I nodded changing my face from playful, to a stern serious look. I thought, “Maybe I should capture a Nidoran M, or F, after I capture my Abra.
We ran down the street against the wind, without stopping. I was really tired, but Benny didn’t slow down a bit. I hoped we would arrive soon, so I could rest, but endured the pains, and aches. We turned right on Koga Dr. and ran three houses down, and turned left, and we finally arrive.
As we entered, Benny told the doctor, “Dr. Benson, I have the Nidoran Female, so now what do I do.” Benny released his Nidoran F, as he waited for his instructions. Nidoran F looked around with a smile on her little face, as she waited for a command.
“Have your Nidoran F poke each of your family members exactly three times, and after you do each I will ask you to leave, and get some fresh air,” Dr. Benson told them. He then started digging through his bag for something. Benny nodded, while looking worried, and nervous. He then commanded, “Nidoran, poke everyone laying down 3 times.” I could hear the trembling in his voice, but Nidoran F listened very well.
Nidoran F walked over to each of Benny’s family members, and poked the three times, then walked back over to Benny, and stood up. “Return Nidoran, you did a great job. You deserve a rest,” he said. I could still hear his voice trembling, but it was clearing up. “Lets go Shiggy, we can go to Safari Zone again,” he continued.
We walked out, and traveled back over to the Safari Zone entrance for another session. When we finally arrived, I used Heracross again, and Benny chose Totodile.
We walked in, and both went back to area 4. We went over to the pool in the center, where I remembered most of the Horsea being.
I threw a piece of bait in the water, and waited. My grandpa used to lure Horsea to the top like this, but nothing was biting. I waited, gradually putting more bait down. Finally after 20 pieces of bait, a Horsea popped up and eat them.
“Go Heracross, use your Horn Attack,” I cried as I threw my pokeball. Benny was watching intensely; as Heracross emerged, took flight, and lunged at Horsea, horn first. Horsea quickly countered with Water gun.
The Horsea shot a high-pressure blast of water at the charging Heracross. Heracross was hit, and knocked out of the sky. It got back up, and used Megahorn. A blinding green light caused his horn to glow. It drilled Horsea with the power of the glow, and the force of a charging Heracross. For a few second, the pool of water changed from crisp blue, to Caterpie green. Horsea was pushed back to the other side of the pool.
Horsea used bubble, and trapped Heracross in the pack of bubbles. Heracross was trapped between the bubbles, and fell into the water. Vellyvell waited while his Heracross was underwater. I was very worried until Heracross came to the top of the water, and climbed on dry land.
Vellyvell knew Heracross would be in trouble if he didn’t do something, so He tossed an apple in the water. The Horsea came up, and saw the bobbing apple. It immediately started eating. Heracross used the time to recover.
Heracross was in a lot of pain, and could barely fly, but it still wanted to keep battling. I commanded Heracross to fly over Horsea, and just let go. Heracross looked down, and lifted itself in the air. He completely let himself fall. Horsea had just finished the apple, and looked up in the sky, but by the time it saw Heracross, there was no time to dodge. Heracross had hit Horsea, and stunned it temporarily.
Horsea dived underwater, and swam around in a circle. It created a Twister, and it was traveling toward Heracross. It hit Heracross with incredible power, and threw Heracross into a tree. Heracross was covered in blue bug blood, and could barely stand up.
Horsea was tired, but had more energy than the beetle, Heracross. “Use brick Break,” I commanded. Heracross nodded, and his hands started glowing a red, brick-color. Heracross punched Horsea with both hands at the same time. Horsea winced, and dived underwater.
All of the sudden a large blast of water shot at Heracross. By pure luck, it didn’t shoot high enough to hit Heracross, as far back away from the water as it had walked.
I took a deep breath, and knew it was time to end this battle, or Heracross would lose. “Heracross, use Reversal, pay back Horsea for all the damage its done, and more,” I yelled as I scrolled down its list of attack, from the Pokedex. Heracross grinned as if it could just self-destruct, survive, and laugh about it.
Heracross sighted Horsea bobbing in the water, and started glowing. At the speed of sound Heracross was right in front of Horsea. It pummeled Horsea with all sorts of kicks, punched, and horn attacks. All I could see were flashes of light.
It finished with a roundhouse kick that knocked Horsea out of the water. I chuckled, and said, “Go Safari ball, capture that Horsea, and hold it in with all your might,” as I ran, and threw the Safari ball, just like my Grandpa showed me.
The Safari ball hit Horsea with a plop, and a red light swallowed the small sea horse. It rocked back, and forth, as I waited with great anticipation. I thought to myself, “ If I capture Horsea, this will be my first real capture,” and hoped that the Safari ball would stop rocking with a click.

I realized what had happened. I had failed to capture Horsea. I couldn’t resist falling to the ground. Heracross limped over on his one leg that wasn’t injured too badly, though it still bled, and rubbed me on the back. He had grown to trust me during that battle. “I can’t believe I failed,” I cried as I saw the Horsea hop back into the water.
Benny said, “You shouldn’t capture a weakling like Horsea. You should capture the king of the sea, Milotic. They start as Feebas, weak pokemon that are equivalent to Magikarp in power, but train them right, and make these ugly fish beautiful, and voila you have a Milotic.” Benny then showed me a picture of it.
“Nah, I don’t want one. My brother caught a Magikarp; it took him three month to get it to evolve, and lost three hundred matches. I won’t deal with any weaklings until I am the champ.” I told him
“That will be a long time, you will never ever become the champ. The only reason is because, I will beat you every time, buddy. I will be the best there ever is, the best there ever was, and the best there ever will be. Kids will wish they were me,” Benny told me.
We had then stop talking, as the squeaky nasal voice boomed once again, “Step on the nearest blue tile, and exit the Safari Zone, thank you for coming.” We stepped on the same blue tile, and walked out of the Safari Zone, with all of our pokemon. Heracross had been fully healed, like all pokemon used in the Safari Zone, thanks to the glory of the new rules.
I went digging in my bag for my Pokemon Recorder, to see what level Heracross had reached, and found my two tickets for a ride on the Kanto Cable Car Express for today, at 3:00, which was in two hours, and it would take about two hours to get there, running non-stop. We would have to hurry fast.
“Hey, Benny, we have to hurry to Saffron City, and catch to Cable Car to Petalburg City. I must meet my cousin, Janice, Janine’s little sister, so I can watch out for her. So we must run at top speed to catch it,” I told him.
“Okay, lets go,” Benny, replied. I started running with him right next to me. We ran up a route, and we were both out of breath. I suggested jogging after we make it to Vermillion City, and Benny nodded.
We kept running, leaving trainers who wanted to challenge us in a mad frenzy. Finally we made it up to the final turn before Vermillion. As we curved for the turn I crashed in to a sleeping Snorlax.
“Oh, Great. Lets go Heracross use Brick Break,” I said timidly, scrolling down his pokedex list of attacks for Heracross. Heracross hands glowed white, and he flew at Snorlax, top speed. He punched really hard twice, and created a bruise on Snorlax’s side. Snorlax didn’t even budge. I returned Heracross, and looked at my watch.
‘Benny said, “My turn, Go Totodile, use your bite attack, on that bruise.”<br> Totodile came out, and did a dance, and then charged at Snorlax, with its mouth wide open. He chomped down as hard he could, but only created a small puncture. Blood came out, slowly, and was a red-like color, almost as dark as beets.
Snorlax still didn’t budge. It simply mumbled in its sleep. It then roared, and Totodile ran in its pokeball.
Suddenly Snorlax jumped up, and ran past me, and Benny, nearly squishing us. It turned left, and disappeared in the distance. I looked around, and ran, with Benny chasing after me.
We ran to Vermillion, and ran into a house. We got bus tickets, and hoped this would make up for lost time. We boarded the bus, and it took of moving at 70 miles per hour. I thought about making the Cable Car the whole time.
Finally we arrived with five minutes to go. We ran like crazy, all around the huge glorious city. We past Silph Co. and found the place. I ran in the large, long, blue building, and immediately asked, “Am I too late for the 3:00 train.” Benny looked at the lady at the stand, anticipating her answer.
“No, we are currently boarding. Do you have tickets to get on board? You need to hand them over, before boarding,” She answered.
We handed over our tickets, and went inside. The car was full. It had Pokemon trainers, Contest trainers, and a couple of shady figures. I wondered if something was about to go down. Benny looked with questioning eyes, just like I did. Little did we know there would be a critical accident that would happen to one of us.

The shady figures were acting suspicious, and moving from seat to seat. It reminded me of a story I was told by my brother. I was going to watch their every move, and the B.O.P.T. (Board of Pokemon Trainers) and I could get any pokemon, non-legendary, that I want. I could easily get a Kingdra; I would just have to capture them.
Suddenly I came back from my though, and looked around the bus. There was an outrageous uproar going on. The shady figures were part of the notorious gang, Team Rocket. They were getting ready to escape with people’s money, pokemon, and personal items, but they didn’t rob me, or Benny.
I ran threw the crowd, as they parted. Benny just looked at me. “The jig is up. You need to give everyone his or her money back.
The large male Team rocket member told me, “Back off, before you cause bad crap to happen.” He pulled something out of his pocket. “I said, “That is so vague. You should be more specific, dumb-bell. I would call you something worse, but that would be insulting other living things.” I slowly stepped closer to him, a move I would live to regret.
The female rocket member held me back, while the male rocket member revealed a Pistol. I saw him aim it at me, and then right before he pulled the trigger, he shifted toward Benny.
I heard the sound of the hot, rock solid, piece of iron buzz pass me, and felt the heat. I heard Benny cry, “No, ahhhhhhhhhh.” Then he managed to choke the words, “Help me, Shiggy. Fulfill my dreams; capture the Feebas of Route 119. Please.”<br> By this time, I had run over to him. His eyes were barely open, and he wasn’t blinking. “No matter what happens, capture that Feebas, promise me.” Those were the last word he said to me. Salty, crystal clear, tears ran down my cheeks, as I slowly nodded.
The policemen came over to me, and said, “You are the boy who tried to stop them. We have found out that they had stolen Pokemon Eggs from our department. For your valiant efforts gone wrong, we will reward you with these eggs.” I looked at them, before accepting them, one was a light shade of purple so light it was almost pink, and a Pikachu colored egg, and said, “Thanks, I guess.”<br> I had just walked away from the police; when I heard a crack, crackle sound. I looked down and both eggs were hatching, “Already, hatching,” I thought looking at the eggs. The eggs had one big hole on the top, and one Pichu
We had just arrived in Slateport City, and an ambulance had taken Benny away to the Fortree City Medical Center. The doctors said he would be okay, but I didn’t believe them for on second. I could here their voices shivering, and shaking. “Team Rocket, I will find you, and make sure you suffer for what you have done,” I yelled at the top lung, air running out of my large mouth fast.
My next job was to fulfill Benny’s wishes. It would be a hard task, but I knew I could do it. He wanted a Feebas; I would give him a Feebas.
I looked around, and checked on my pokemon. With that Snorlax battle, everyone gained experience. According to my recorder, each of my pokemon had gotten 950,000 experience points, but I had only used Heracross. I checked in my recorder, and I was amazed when I saw those levels: Torchic 34, Heracross 30, Dratini 29, Pichu 5, Nidoran Male 5. (Remember at the beginning I said I have had Torchic for a while, and Dratini, and Heracross were Safari Zone Pokemon.)
“Humph, this will be a simple mission, capturing such a weak pokemon.” I thought. I pulled out my Pokenav, and looked at my map. Mauville is only 10 miles up the street from the top of Slateport.
On the way, I trained my two new pokemon, so that they could be caught up in power to my other pokemon. I fought weak trainers, and battled wild pokemon. I fought with pride, even after losing, and my pokemon saw that.
Eventually I fought a bird trainer, and fried his birds with Pichu. It started hopping around, and was as happy as a trainer who had just beaten the amazing Elite 4. Suddenly it started glowing, and it grew in size.
When the light died down, I had a Pikachu. “Pika, Pika Pikachu. Pikachu, Pika Pi,” Pikachu said. <I am so happy. Thanks for evolving me. I feel so much stronger. We will go far in the game partner> (This is a translation of what Pikachu said.)
In the same day, I fought a Bug Catcher. He was very weak, and only had 3 Metapods. Nidoran Male took care of the bugs, by flushing them out with a barrage of Poison Sting, and one Horn Attack
He started to glow in the same way as Pichu. I knew what was coming, and just waited for the bright, blinding light to tone down.
When it finally did stop, there was a ferocious looking dinosaur. It was a darker shade of purple than the egg, and Nidoran. I ran over and hugged my new pokemon, Nidorino. It was just as happy as I was. His muscles were so much stronger, and he was so much faster. I could understand the upgrade in power from a Pichu to Pikachu, but that much power in a Nidorino was hard for me to believe.
“Nothing would get in my way now,” I thought as I walked through the short, green, sharp grass. I looked ahead, and I saw a bicycle road. I wished I had a bike, and continued walking up the route.
Soon, after embarrassing crashed, battling wild pokemon, and sneaking past dumb, inexperienced trainers, I could see a city up ahead. “I’m almost there,” I thought; looking at the glorious, crisp blue skies, with fluffy, clean white cloud floating across the city, causing it to shine, and glow beautifully.
I ran as fast as I could up the hill separating me from Mauville City, when suddenly BOOM! A large explosion roared. A trainer was flying in the air, and about to come to a crash landing.
“Go, Heracross. Catch that falling trainer before he land. The strong beetle flew off at a high speed. I felt the cold wind from it smash me in my face. I saw a figure in the air capture another figure, and cheered, “Go, Heracross; you did it.
Heracross flew back over to me, and set the boy down. He was still breathing, but unconscious.
I was walking with the boy over my shoulder. He was about 3 ft. and 6 inches, the size of my little cousin from my mom’s side of the family. He looked like he was mixed, and was about 7 years old from what I could tell.
Suddenly he woke up, and asked, “Where am I. Were you there when the explosion happened.” I was happy to see he didn’t lose his memory. I could ask him what happened to cause the explosion.
“No,” I answered. I continued, “Tell me what happened.” He nodded, and took a deep breath. I could tell it would be a long story.
“I was about to try and capture the Feebas of Route 119, and had my lucky pokeball, containing my starter, Chikorita. I launched my fishing rod into the water, following the details of my dad’s Feebas Hunting Guide Daily magazine. I sat there waiting when I got a bite. I pulled, and reeled the fish up, wondering what it was, when it popped out of nowhere. It was the Feebas of Route 119. I could tell because it matched the description from the book. “Go, Chikorita,” I cried, knowing I had a type advantage.
Just as Chikorita was about to launch its attack, a Pokemon slithered out, a blinding, shining, light blocked its face, and body, and it blocked the Razor Leaf attack. I had Chikorita use its Vine Whip to swing the pokemon in the water. It brought out dark green vines from its tiny neck, and grabbed the Pokemon with them. The pokemon was thrown into the water, and another Pokemon jumped down from a tree. Its face, and body were protected just like the other one.
I knew I couldn’t handle three pokemon so I sent out my other two pokemon, Koffing, and Ralts. It was even, and I had to take a chance. I had Ralts use Hypnosis on one of them, and had Koffing use Smokescreen.
I put goggles on, and saw the weak Feebas, struggling to breath. “Chikorita, Vine Whip,” I cried. Chikorita shot its whips at Feebas, and whipped it once. I knew if I got it with my Pokeball, I would capture it easily. So, I threw my Pokeball, and watched it soar valiantly through the air, and just as it was dropping toward Feebas, a light blue barrier appeared. It reflected the Pokeball back to me, and the first Pokémon’s eyes glowed, enabling him to see. The other Pokémon’s eyes did the same, as if they were in a trance.
They looked at me as, I returned my pokemon, and started to turn and run, when the two pokemon both used Hyper Beam at the same time. A charged beam of gold, red, and orange beam shot at me, as I ran past the generator for Mauville City. It hit, and as a chemical reaction exploded, blasting me into the air, and knocking me unconscious, where your Heracross caught me,” He finally finished.
I listened to his story, and shivered. “What kind of sick pokemon could be protecting this Feebas, and a barrier? How was I going to break a barrier?” I thought. This would be a tough capture, I knew there had to be a catch for capturing such a weak, rare, fish.
