I origanlly posted this story at the old forum site and was told I needed to revise it: adding more detail, longer battle scenes, and to be more realistic. Since the old site is no longer up and running, I'm posting my story here for it to be regraded.[/i][/u]
“Savage Fire Horses”<br>
The day was turning out to be beautiful. The air was crisp and cold, and the sun was just beginning to rise. The colors of the sun’s early rays were striking; they lit up the sky with a golden hue. I felt so free as the wind whipped my blonde hair back out of my eyes. The golden Charizard pendant, dangling from my necklace lit up, matching the sky in its brilliance. The Professor of my hometown gave the necklace to me; he said it would bring me luck in my travels as it had once done for him. I never knew why the Professor knew so much about me, but he did, and he knew that I loved fire Pokemon. In fact, the Charmander he had given me, as my starter, would soon become a Charizard like the one on the pendant. I couldn’t wait for that moment.
I noticed the pine trees all around me, and the wild bird Pokemon that dotted the richly colored sky. Not a cloud was visible, and not a sound could be heard except for my own footsteps. I accepted my surroundings and continued to admire this beautiful day.
The smell of wet pine needles filled my nose. I loved being outside; my dad had liked the outdoors too. My mother said he used to take me on early morning walks when I was very small. He used to bundle me up in his big jacket and carry me, pointing out all the wild Pokemon. I grew up without knowing my father, he had left one night, when I was seven, and never returned home. I never asked my mother much about him; I knew it hurt her to speak of him. For some reason though, I had a feeling she was holding something back from my sister and me, the truth on where my father was and why he had left. I found my mind wondering, something I often found myself doing. I decided to stop on the side of the road and pull out my map.
I had marked out the path I was going to take the night before; it was the longer path, the one that should lead to a meadow. If I were correct, the path would be guiding me to a small stream soon, once past the stream, the path would disappear and a meadow would begin to unfold.
Memorizing which way to go, I crinkled up the map and put it into my pocket. I was hoping that by going to the meadow, I might find some wild Ponyta, or even a few Rapidash. By the time I would make it into the valley and its meadow, it would be late morning, but hopefully it would be worth my while. Out of all the fire Pokemon, the fire horses were my favorite, and this time I had a reason to catch one. During my last stop I had met up with an old man who owned a farm, for many years he had admired this meadow and the fire horses it provided for. Since he never raised his Pokemon for battle or long traveling, he asked if I would mind capturing some of the wild horses for him. If they were capable of battling when I gave them to him, he would keep them, if not, he would increase their beauty and intelligence and then sell them for showing or pleasure purposes. I made a deal with the man that I’d capture what I could, raise them in battles, and give them to him in exchange for a Miltank and Taurous. It would take time for me to get my exchange though, since I wouldn’t be heading back towards that particular town for a while.
I continued down the path, humming loudly as I briskly walked. I followed the path a ways until I could see the small sparkling stream in the distance. The air around me was still cold but my quick walking had kept me warm. The golden sky had faded into a brilliant blue. It reminded me of Matt’s eyes, cold and glacial. I hoped he wasn’t regretting me raise his lovely Vulpix. Matt was the old man’s son, Vulpix was one of the only Pokemon Matt had owned but he didn’t have the money it took to properly raise such a demanding creature. Vulpix’s fur was badly tousled and full of dirt, but I knew, with time, I would be able to bring out her beauty. So, he sold her to me to care for until he had a job and was able to support his Pokemon. Then, when I would return to the farm for the exchange between his father and I, he would give me back my money with interest, and I would return his Pokemon, who by the time, may even be evolved into a Ninetails. My mind was wandering again…what I could do with a Ninetails. I smiled.
With the Vulpix in mind, I finally reached the stream and decided I’d let my Pokemon out of their Pokeballs. First Flame bounced out; he was my first Pokemon, a newly evolved Charmeleon. Then, with literally a shocking plunk, Electrifyin’ rolled out; she was a Mareep and I had bought her from the farmer and his son for myself, no stings attached. Finally, Vulpix happily after, which I was raising for Matt. And lastly…I paused when I reached for the last ball. Did I dare open the last one? I knew what was in it, the Beedrill that had nearly killed me before I caught him. I had to open it sooner or later and I figured sooner would be better.
Knowing that the Beedrill was under my power, I opened it; the Beedrill plopped out. It didn’t appear as heartless as I remembered. It just sat there, looking up at me with large trusting eyes. Flame came to my side and pulled at my pant leg, so I knelt down beside him and the large Beedrill.
“Well, it looks like we’re all going to be friends now!” I exclaimed.
“Char, Char, Meleon, Char.” Flame said with a glowing expression. I smiled at them both and motioned for the Vulpix to come over too.
“Vulpix, this is the Beedrill that I told you and Matt about.” I explained to the Vulpix. Matt and his father found me in the forest not far from their farm and had saved my life from this Beedrill’s poisonous pin that had been rooted in my leg. The Vulpix was silent and pranced around beside us. I noticed her fur, soiled and full of knots.
“Let’s try to clean your fur some, Vulpix.” I walked closer to the cold stream and the Vulpix followed close behind. I cupped my hands together in order to gather some water. Once I had enough, I dumped it on the Vulpix, who shook with pleasure as the cool water drenched her fur. I repeated this until her fur was completely clean.
When I was finished, I ordered Vulpix to stay close to Flame’s tail in order to dry quicker. When her fur was dry I guided each of the Pokemon across the stream, until we were safely on the opposite side.
